In 2001, the Korean Craft Museum was established as a local art museum to enhance regional identity,
improve local artists, and allow citizens to relish culture and art. Chungbuk’s Craft was launched in 2006
to introduce and spotlight local artists in Chungcheongbuk-do. Chungbuk’s Craft is the fruit of the museum’s
exhibition planning to shed light on local artists and pay attention to the local craft art scene for the last 17 years. It also refers to all local artists who have been cultivating their abilities on the basis of the spirit and value only Chungbuk’s artists retain.
In 2023, we intend to bring both established and emerging artists in each field of crafts together under the title of Chungbuk’s Craft. This craft exhibition is designed to shed light on mid-career artists who have led the local craft scene and Korean craft culture in textile, glass, metal and wood craft as well as up-and-coming rising artists who will enthusiastically pave the way into the future. In addition, to cast light on the past, present, and future of the local craft world, we seek to strengthen connections and bonds between generations through collaborations between established and emerging artists.
This will be the first window into domestic and human craft culture, as artists, works, and audiences in this show all listen to and communicate with each other within the small but large confines of Chungbuk. Korean Craft Museum in Cheongju will present various annual special exhibitions under the title of Chungbuk’s Craft and will open the expansive forum for cultural exchanges by discovering and supporting rising artists and providing insights into the local craft culture.
