itinerary

※ Seoul City Tour (09:00-18:00)

Today’s tour is a one-day tour of the four major palaces in Seoul.
The itinerary is as follows:

First, Deoksugung Palace.
We will depart from the hotel at 9 a.m. Deoksugung Palace is located right across the road from Seoul City Hall, in the heart of the city.
The name "Deoksu" refers to a palace that symbolizes high virtue and longevity.

Second, after touring Deoksugung, we will walk through Gwanghwamun Square and proceed to Gyeongbokgung Palace.
Gyeongbokgung Palace was the main royal palace during the Joseon Dynasty, where the king handled official affairs.
"Gyeongbok" means wishing for great fortune for the king, his descendants, and all the people.

Third, we will walk to Changdeokgung Palace, located next to Gyeongbokgung.
Changdeokgung served as the main palace when Gyeongbokgung was destroyed by fire.
While it is not as grand as Gyeongbokgung, it is a beautiful palace registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Fourth, we will visit Changgyeonggung Palace, right next to Changdeokgung.
Unlike other palaces, Changgyeonggung is surrounded by trees and is a more peaceful place. It was built by the king for the queen mother.
Though the palace has witnessed some historical sorrows, it offers beautiful views, including Namsan Tower, making it a scenic spot.

Lastly, for those who have time, we will visit a duty-free shop for shopping before concluding the tour.

Lunch will be provided with a traditional Korean set menu.

▒ Tourist Information

※ Gyeongbokgung Palace
Gyeongbokgung Palace was founded in 1395 and was completely destroyed by fire during the Imjin War in 1592. It was rebuilt in 1868.
The term "Gyeongbok" means wishing for great fortune for the king, his descendants, and all the people.
Surrounded by Inwangsan Mountain, it has the best beauty and conditions as a great location.

※ Changdeokgung Palace
Changdeokgung Palace is located to the east of Gyeongbokgung Palace and served as a royal palace during the Joseon Dynasty.
It has well-preserved original structures and was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1997.
When Gyeongbokgung was burned down in the Imjin War in 1592, Changdeokgung served as the main palace where the king conducted his affairs.
In particular, the garden of Changdeokgung, known as the Huwon, is highly valuable and very beautiful, representing Korean gardens.
Because only the royal family enjoyed the Huwon, it is also referred to as a secret garden.

※ Changgyeonggung Palace
Changgyeonggung Palace, located to the right of Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung, was rebuilt in 1483.
However, like Gyeongbokgung, it was destroyed by fire during the Imjin War and was later rebuilt.
Changgyeonggung was created for the king to house three queens, but it has also become a tragic place where historical figures died. It has been used for purposes unrelated to its original value, such as a zoo and botanical garden.
Still, the view of Namsan Tower from the backyard of Changgyeonggung provides a beautiful scene that harmonizes with Changgyeonggung, offering a great photo opportunity for tourists, leaving behind the historical sorrow.

※ Deoksugung Palace
Deoksugung Palace is located to the left of Seoul City Hall.
The meaning of "Deoksu" is to live long with virtue.
In 1895, after Empress Myeongseong was assassinated by Japanese troops at Gyeongbokgung, King Gojong fled to Deoksugung due to threats to his life.
At that time, the surrounding area of Deoksugung housed the embassies of powerful nations such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and Russia.
Thus, the four grand palaces of Joseon have endured various oppressions from powerful nations while still showcasing their beautiful forms and continuing their history to this day.
