itinerary
◐ Itinerary (3 days, 2 nights)
☆ Enjoying the Mongolian Steppe, Desert, and Lake
♣ Day 1: We will head to the Elsen Tasarkhai Desert, 280 km away. Upon arrival, you can experience camel riding and enjoy stargazing at night. We will stay overnight in a shared ger (4 people per ger) in the desert.
♣ Day 2: After traveling an additional 100 km from the desert, we will reach Kharkhorin. This was once the capital during the reign of Ogedei Khan, Genghis Khan’s successor, and was the center of the world at one point. Although most traces have disappeared, you can get a glimpse of the past by visiting the local museum. After that, we will take unpaved roads over the hills to reach the lake. This lake is a haven for migratory birds, and you will be able to see various bird species and animals. You will also have the opportunity to go boating. We will stay overnight in a shared ger (4 people per ger) near the lake.
♣ Day 3: We will visit the ruins of the Khitan Fortress, where you can get a sense of the lifestyle during the Khitan period. Most of the fortress is in ruins, with only traces of the walls remaining. After lunch at the Lün Rest Area, we will head to Ulaanbaatar. Once we arrive in Ulaanbaatar, the trip will officially end.
Thank you.

▒ Tourist Information
☞ Elsen Tasarkhai
Although not as large as the Gobi Desert, this is a moderate-sized desert area.
You can enjoy activities like camel riding and walking on the desert sands.
Located 280 km from Ulaanbaatar, it's a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to the city.
☞ Kharkhorin
In Kharkhorin, you will find the Erdene Zuu Monastery, which was built for the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism.
In 1917, the monastery complex had 62 temples and over 500 buildings within its walled perimeter, housing more than 10,000 monks.
However, after the Mongolian Revolution, Mongolian Buddhism faced severe political repression from the Soviet Union. Between 1936 and 1939, 31,597 people were purged, including 17,000 monks.
The 62 temples were reduced to 18, and by 1938, the remaining 64 monks had left the monastery, and Erdene Zuu was closed.
In 1944, the monastery became a protected site under the national government, and it was the only traditional Mongolian building to receive state protection at that time.
☞ Ugii Lake
Crossing the unpaved mountain roads from Kharkhorin, you will arrive at Ugii Lake, a haven for migratory birds.
Here, you can enjoy activities such as boating and fishing on the lake, and witness stunning sunsets and sunrises.
On the surrounding plains, you can spot flocks of eagles searching for animal carcasses, along with various other wildlife species.
This location is also a favorite spot for photographers who come to capture its beauty.
☞ Terelj National Park
Terelj National Park is located about 50 km northeast of Ulaanbaatar, and along the road, it is about 70 km away.
It is one of Mongolia’s most popular recreational areas, frequently visited by both Mongolians and foreign tourists.
The park is surrounded by gentle mountains and forests, with a clear river flowing through it.
Within the park, you will find Ungot Mountain, known for its wildflower fields, Yol Mountain, which offers a panoramic view of the surroundings, Ariyabal Monastery, and many fascinating rock formations like Turtle Rock.

☞ Personal preparations
▒ Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, is located 1,300 meters above sea level. In summer, there is a cool breeze in the bright sunlight. However, since the daily temperature difference is large in the morning and evening of the year, it is recommended to prepare a windbreaker or a thin outerwear even in the middle of summer.
You can prepare winter jackets in May, thick autumn jackets in June, autumn hiking suits in July and August, slightly thick autumn jackets in September, fully winter jackets in October, and fully armed winter jackets from November to April.
▒ Liquor sales are legally prohibited on the first day of every month.
▒ It's good to prepare a personal simple side dish.
▒ Long pants and sneakers (climbing boots) are good for nomadic and horseback riding experiences during the schedule.
▒ Mongolia has strong sunlight, so it is good to prepare sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat with strings.
▒ When you look at the stars at night, if you have a thin mat on the ground, you can lie down and enjoy the stars. (Twinkle Twinkle)

▒ It is good to prepare toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush, razor, etc.) that will be used simply during GER stay.
